This week has been full of snotty noses, little sleep and tons of home decor projects started and not completed.
A nasty cold has taken refuge in the Larsen household, luckily it usually hits our family in stages which at least makes day to day life not as miserable, as there's at least one well person in the house at any given time. I'm sure I need to read up on some cold fighting home remedies... eating raw garlic or something crazy like that... I guess I forgot what usually goes hand in hand with beautiful fall..... NASTY cold season... blaaa
So instead of enjoying a family outing to Mt. Rainier to ride the train and a much anticipated trip to IKEA and Cabelas, we decided for the sake of our sanity and the well being of innocent bystanders that we'd stay home... rest up finish up some projects and reschedule our little road trip for a less snot filled weekend.... bummer...
So home projects.... well I may have found a new obsession.... painters drop cloths! I know strange right... well I'm not the first really, I'm not... It's all over blog land... using drop cloths for a HUGE array of home decorating... from curtains and pillow covers to wreaths and table runners..... it's affordable and has this amazingly wonderful warm rustic country oatmeal color, that I must say after it's been washed dryed and ironed..... Mmmmmmm!
Our bedroom has been one of my biggest focuses lately... I've never really had a space to decorate... as we never really stay in one place long enough to get it done... well since we have no plan of leaving anytime soon... it was time... Drop cloth curtains with homemade curtain rods were the first thing on my list... Although the rods have not been sprayed it's an amazing transformation so far! I LOVE them, as does the hubby who may have been a bit skeptical.... "drop cloths... really?"
The curtain rod idea came from http://www.houseofhepworths.com/2011/10/11/how-to-make-a-cheap-awesome-professional-curtain-rod/ fantastic idea! I had a pretty looooong window to cover and a sliding glass door so purchasing curtain rods would have been pretty spendy.... with my spray paint (which I'll have tons left over for other projects) two pieces of conduit, 6 brackets and a pipe cutter I spent around $15 not bad... not bad at all! Ikea sells rod ends so someday when I make it to Ikea my rods might have a more "finished" look... until then I'm just happy to have the 80s lace and hideous vintage pull cord stripped curtains out. I hope to find a break in the weather this weekend so we can get those rods painted and cut....
I'll post pictures once their complete...
UPDATE: The wreath is finished... now just to get the hubby to hang it... I have the perfect spot..
As you might notice... Mama's got a new sewing/craft space... yep I've take over part of the so called play room... enough room for my ironing board, an old dining room table and some sort of random toy to step on... perfect! Loving my view as always!
Drop cloth plan #3.... Stenciling our wedding song lyrics on pillows for our bed.... thought this was just the sweeetest idea EVA! and thanks to the fabulous "local" art store I have everything I need!
Stay tuned....
oh and since its fall and all.... I'm makin some pumpkin roll bars... they will pair nicely with our Philly sandwiches we're makin tonight... I'm sure!
I LOVE FALL!
(Sorry the post is a little late... little Ben has needed his Mama lots lately... and I'm not complainin!)

Can't wait to see how your curtains turn out..... and I LOVE the wreath! The drop cloth is nice and full, and probably less messy than having burlap up your nose, huh?! lol :)
ReplyDeleteYou have been a busy girl! Love love love that wreath (make me one!) and can't wait to see your curtains. Our bedroom is always the last place to get decorated/cleaned so I'm def trying to focus on finishing it first in the new house. Sorry to hear about your cold. Feel better my friend!!
ReplyDeleteI was actually thinkin about asking your mom if I made a couple if she'd put them in her store...
