Giving Thanks and how this "Most Wonderful Time of the Year"... Totally crept up on me!

So Thanksgiving happened in the blink of an eye... maybe it was because I wasn't in the kitchen cooking for 2 days, or up until the weeee hours of the night cleaning my kitchen.... we went non-traditional this year... and to be quite honest I'm totally all for it next year.

Jeromy and I both don't much like Turkey... (don't judge us!)  So why buy a giant bird, have it hoggin the oven for "days" (it feels that way, don't it?)  then have ooodles of left overs when you don't really even enjoy eatin it....  well the only logical thing to do was pick out one of our favorite local BBQ joints and make sure they'd be able to accommodate our order on Thanksgiving day!

Happily they were able to supply us with a couple racks of ribs, a mound of Beef Brisket, BBQ Beans and some Spicy Mac N Cheese!  All mama had to do was whip up some artichoke dip (because it's really not a major holiday unless I do...)

mashed taters, steam some garden carrots, and make some mac salad... oh and open a bottle of Finn River Cider (cuz it's amazin!!)  For dessert we had apple crisp made from homegrown apples!

It was a total success!  and I finished my delicious meal with no turkey guilt... however I think I over ate... it happens!

OMG... yum

Trimmin the bird... I mean cow... I mean... oh whateva lets eat!

What's this... I thought we were eating MEAT!

Colten proudly labeled our different BBQ Sauces...

What a Caveman FEAST!

Perfection...

A new Fav!  I requested some when Jer headed to town to pick up our food... however on his way home he realized he'd forgotten it... so what's a hubby to do??  Head straight to the source... He headed down the LOOOOONG dirt road to the Finn River Farm... Found someone and bought two bottles!!  Thanks neighbors it wouldn't have been a holiday meal with out Artichoke dip and Cider!!!!

Thanksgiving Night was spent Black Friday Style... but wait wouldn't that be Black Thursday?  We got what we went for and were home by 10:30... I'd call it a success and I must say although I was mighty full of BBQ I was much more pleasant to look at than I would have been at the usual Black Friday Start Time of 4AM!!

Oh and you wanna talk about leftovers??  Do we even have to go there?  Yes, yes we do.... This was my breakfast the next morning... a  hubby creation of course but totally noteworthy....  dinner rolls, scrambled eggs, brisket, spicy mac, and a drizzle of bbq sauce.....  I'm salivating RIGHT now....  that's different from drooling... it's more classy!

The rest of November is mostly a blur...  thank goodness I take pictures to remind me what happened yesterday! Haha!  Ok it's not that bad..... most days!

So we have some new family members... yep a family of deer have moved in... they bed down every night down by the creek and roam the property cleaning up the apples that we missed.

It was just another bath night..... UNTIL....

Mom shut the lights off.... then BAM instant disco bath party!

I was like the most awsomest mom EVA!  you can be one too... pick up some glow sticks and turn off the lights!  You'll have pruny kids in no time!

Then one day I woke up and realized that December was just days away.... ahhhhhh I have to start this tree skirt makeover or I'm gonna be stuck with the tree skirt I bought at Walmart 8 years ago AGAIN!  (yeah that was sooo not happening)
Ohhh and guess what I used??.... did you guess Drop Cloth??

So December arrived and like it does every year it's totally flyin by.... (WHY? it's the most wonderful time of the year... why can't it just creep by... like all the other months)

Soooooooo many projects I want to do, so many things I wanna bake SOOO little time!

You know that "Elf on the Shelf" could really make himself useful and help me out....

Haha and yes our Elf arrived last weekend... his name is Finn and I have no regrets!  Jeromy and I both love the "Magic" of Christmas!  I remember the feeling of being little and "Believing" and there's really something sooooooooo amazing and warm and fuzzy about it.  I love that kids can believe so easily...  I love seeing Colten light up when he looks for Finn each morning.  Traditions are fun... feeling like a little kid at Christmas time is just the best.  As we get older I think we tend to get wrapped up (no pun intended) in the business of December that we can sometimes loose sight of the MAGIC of the season.

So the unexpected forced us to buy our tree from a local tree stand... bummed we didn't get to go find the most imperfect tree in the forest.
What we saved in fuel we spent on a tree... and I must say she's a BEAUTY!

Putting the star on top....  Careful not to touch Finn!!

Even our tree has a view... ;)

I'm still tryin to master indoor tree photos.... ughhh it's really not easy to get a good shot is it?!  Although this one turned out ok... Right?

Before leaving for Colten's Christmas program at his Preschool....  He looks thrilled right?

Again my camera HATES me... tons of retakes and there's only a couple usable ones... anybody have tips for point and shoot cameras... throw your suggestions my way!

Yep cuz that's how we roll... funny that this is what my timer caught!

Ohhhh BOOM YEAH!

Really your ear Jeromy.....  original I guess

Really wishin this one had turned out... Dooo OVER!

Colten's Christmas Program was fun.... lots of off key singing, kids souped up on Christmas cookies, Ben running away from us, some hot glue burns (not on the children thank goodness) some Christmas card making all with Sharpies (um who's idea was this) haha!  Some bread roasting over a bonfire... now that was awesome, except that I had to wash my freshly washed hair again after getting home smelling like I had been camping for days!

So now just waiting for our Christmas Shin-Dig at the end of the week... yep in just days we're gonna get our party on UGLY sweater style!

Projects will either get done in time or they wont... I'll stress even though I know it won't do any good and we'll have a smashing good time and I know it!

Here's to spiked eggnog
mistle toe smooches
tacky sweaters
and gaining 5 pounds!
