It all started 15 years ago...

Another year, another volume in our love story, another opportunity to reflect on our journey.  We agreed that the ideal anniversary getaway would involve a camping trip, hot spring soaking, hiking and some kayaking... just the thought made me giddy!
The kids were all set with Grandma and Auntie (and were for once) soooo very excited to see us leave...

Our adventure began in our driveway where I thought I was being helpful by loading up our wheel chalks... yeah um learning expierence for me!!  Yeah never move those freakin things until the trailer is COMPLETELY attached to the back of the car!  Yeah it ended ok thankfully but believe you me... I won't be helping for that part anymore!  It's all yours babe!  So an extra 25 minutes later we were finally heading down the road....  of course we had set the course for this trip already with the catastrophic driveway experience, so we couldn't exactly expect things to go smoothly now apparently....  so next we're traveling HWY 101 and Jeromy sees something fly off our car.... so we stop and pull over and he jogs down the side of the road (about half a football fields distance) where he found Colten's hat, that must have been hiding in the kayak.... I told him "What's next.... these things always happen in 3's)  Well thankfully our "number 3" was in the Costco parking lot...(after grabbing some anniversary essentials like artichoke dip, tortilla chips and bananas) we attempted to leave the parking lot with our trailer steps out... thankfully some nice fella gave us the heads up and we thanked him profusely and explained... "We're just having ONE of those kind of days"
The next hour was spent with me totally talking Jeromy's ear off.... just rambling because it's not often that I'm able to just speak what ever comes to mind... (I had a LOT saved up)  but it's always been how it works... Jeromy listens and I talk... and talk and talk some more!  After all these years I still apologize for talking so much and he assures me he wouldn't have it any other way.... goshhh you complete me!!

Never do I recall traveling around Lake Cresent in the fall, oh my word... super stunning!
We arrived at Sol Duc Hot Springs around 6pm and decided to stay both our nights with hook up at the RV park.  Pretty spendy for parking lot camping but hey we had a fire pit, hot water, heat and no need to charge up our battery the next day...

Our first night fire.... beers, toasty feet and simply the best child free conversations we've had in a long time!

Thrilled!

Cheers to us!

Happiness is a love that's true, honest and unconditional...
This man is so much more than my other half, he's my everything and a little more!

We stayed out until the dog started acting funny.... Jeromy shinned his flashlight to find a raccoon about 20ft from us...  we packed it in for the night and watched Oceans 12 (one of our favorites!) and ate chips and artichoke dip (who does this??? yeah kid free people do!)

The next morning we went and scored a bunch of beverages from the little gift shop that was shutting down the same weekend for the season... everything was $1! SCORE!

Gorgeous!

The path from the Resort to the RV park...

The next morning we ventured out for a hike... but made a stop at the Lake Cresent Lodge since we've never been there... it was soooo picturesque and watching people rush around setting up for a wedding gave me goosebumps... what a nostalgic magical wedding destination...

Overcast yet still stunning... this is on the dock right in front of the lodge...

Our first hike was one we passed up this summer while camping with friends... we love a good waterfall so we were excited to get this one checked of our list!

I love being goofy tourists!

haha

Pretty steep...

It's pretty but I guess I was expecting more... we'll have to check it out again during another season maybe...

We just have too much fun with these timer shots!

Hey it's my anneriversay weekend there was going to be some smoochin!

Treats for a hike well done!

Next we soaked in the hot springs... always surreal... soaking with all these people from different counrties, too bad I wasn't paying closer attention I may have learned some Russian and some Vietnamese...  We met some super awesome people... a couple that even in their almost 70s still hikes the Olympic Peninsula regularly, the husband helped build the Tubal Cain Trail, we were just fascinated by the stories they told.  I recall one of the stories involving some nude hikers... hilarious!
We met a young couple from Seattle, who REALLY encouraged us to travel internationally, which was sort of inspiring! and we even met some fantastic people that we are currently working with financially... (more on that later!)  WOW amazingly the connection you can make with people when you're all somewhere trying to get away from it all....

Nom Nom!! Get in my belly!  Jeromy surprised me with some goodies he stashed in the fridge...
ECLAIRS make me weak in the knees!
Another night of late night movies and a snoring dog...

Finally got him to set off the smoke alarm while cooking breakfast!  YES!

Our next hike was to Sol Duc Falls... it's a must... even if you've seen it 4 times already!
A fantastic short little 1.6 mile roundtripper...

Me and the Cool Guy...

Somebodies gotta act like the little kid...

Breathtaking as always...
makes me feel uneasy and full of life all at the same time...

Funny "these" ones all came out blurry... that's ok you get the idea...
I kinda like it!

Ugh Jeromy being the little kid again...
Found a centipede... EEECK they gross me out!

And it looks like he's torturing it right....  nope he's giving it a belly rub!  That's Jeromy for ya...

So much weirdness...

Weird mushroom...

Built in 1939 to enhance visitors experience...

Jeromy loved it for his future plans of a covered fire pit at home!

Poor Maddie wasn't allowed on the trails in the "Park" so she was happy for her parking lot "hike"

Yeah she's scary lookin...

But it's all for show... she's sweet and goofy!

Next on the list was kayaking Lake Cresent...

We found this amazing pull out next to the lake...
We were both having reservations about this trek as the lake kind of gives us both the heeby jeebies... As if it's depths of 1000ft aren't creepy enough, some pretty horrific deaths have occurred in the lake giving it kind of a eerie feel..

The middle of the lake...
The drop off from the shore is enough to make your stomach turn! Crystal clear.... then BLACK

See the white speck... that's the trailer...

The water starts to get clear again as we near shore on the other side...

BAHAHA I love Jeromy's face here!  Yeah he's super enjoying this right?!

So easily 50ft deep right here.... Unbelievable!

Jeromy walked on shore and found something he said looked like bone but felt like soap...
Weird... well after we got home we almost fell out of our chairs when we read this... The Lady of the Lake

We munched on trail mix and crispy peas (gosh I love those things!)  and talked about some of the most bizarre stuff.... (Sorry what's said at the lake stays at the lake)

Being exhausted... we decided to relax for a bit before heading home... Jeromy laid down in the trailer and I made a cup of coffee and grabbed a book... (a total luxury in my eyes!)
Well my solitude was ruined by this tiny creature that seemed to just be messing with the dog...

Maddie cried for about 10 minutes straight until the chipmunk finally built up enough courage to make a made dash past....

I say it every year... another adventure for the books...
I've been spoiled in the past with anniversary trips to spas, fancy hotels in Canada, fancy meals, snowy lodges in levenworth... they have all been amazing... but this year, this trip really encompassed everything I was needing... My Love, Nature, and Eclairs.... nuf said!
Here's to soulmates and love stories...

Cheers! (clink)
